Turns
out children and teenagers can now spend some fun time during their
vacant hours by playing the newly designed game application called
“Clash of Clans”. According to a website titled
bussinessinsider.com, Clash of Clans, or COC, is a freemium mobile
MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online) startegy video game developed and
published by Supercell, a video game company based in Helsinki,
Finland.
The
application was launched on August 2, 2012 pioneering exclusively for
iOS platforms and Apple stores only.
Later on, the company expanded
its scope of marketing, and last September 30, 2013, the app was made
available for Android phones/gadgets. It was also released on Google
Play last October 7, 2013.
The game basically revolves around the idea of fortifying a base and defending it from opponents who might invade and destroy your structures. Your clan, on the other hand, must raid, using your troops, your opponent’s territory in order to gain gold, elixir, gems and other resources which are useful in the process of enhancing the stats of your barracks and in acquiring freshly rendered upgrades.
Recently, Clash of Clans has become a widespread mobile game trend with players coming from various countries around the globe. Though it was not yet fully recognized by many people when it first came out in 2012, its popularity inside the gaming realm quickly escalated when Supercell started doing intensive advertisements.
They released their Clash of Clans Super Bowl XLIX commercial, featuring Liam Neeson parodying his character from Taken which on February 6, Venture Beat reported the ad as the most viewed of those that appeared in Super Bowl. YouTube users also voted the ad as the second best bowl ad right behind Nissan’s in terms of concept, creativity and design.
It
dominated Apple’s Application Store and plucked the number one
overall highest grossing app spot. According to U.S. statistics
posted on thinkgaming's website last September 2015, Clash
of Clans garners an estimated million dollars in daily revenue, fifty
thousand daily installs and with three point three million daily
active users.
Likewise, with it's rapid surge as a recent trend, there are approximately fifteen million netizens who hit like on its online Facebook page and was given a four out of five star consumerism rate which was posted on commonsensemedia.org’s website.
The game more or less appeals to teenagers and children (aged seven to nineteen) since majority of this age group are gadget users compared to adults. A lot of students either in elementary, high school or college are seen playing the game inside their classrooms, during lunch breaks and even on their beds before going to sleep.
"In
my opinion, I
find Clash of Clans really enjoyable and addictive. Enjoyable in the
sense that it is a multiplayer mode. You are able to play and bond
with your classmates or friends. You team up to plan on how to
successfully destroy the base of your opponent for the benefit of
enhancing the features of your own team’s base. And, it’s
addictive in a way that you must always keep an eye on your base due
to invasions by other clans from time to time”, this
is according to April Molina, a 19-year-old third year Physical
Therapy student from Southwestern University in a social media
interview.
April added that she plays Clash of Clans at least three to four hours a day, or more, depending on the duration of her free time.
“For
me, COC
is a huge hit it in mobile gaming apps because people enjoy playing
the game along with their friends. They keep playing to earn more
gold and to upgrade the strength of their barracks for lesser damages
when enemies invade their territory”, a similar
reason about COC of April’s was pointed out by Ayana Fernandez, a
19-year-old third year student from University of San Carlos during a
phone interview.
Ayana also said that a lot people now know about COC because of advertisements shown in media like on TV, magazines and some on newspaper sheets.

While for Janina Alyzza Ala, a 10-year-old grade five student from GCLCI in a Facebook interview, “I and my classmates love to play COC because the characters are so cute and the mechanics of the game is very understandable even for our age”.
Furthermore, Clash of clans is constantly evolving to offer more user-friendly, consistent, and fun online experiences for gamers. There have been countless updates and enrichments of the app such as:
-
A dueling/challenge/sparing area and new buildings
-
More Goblin Campaign Single Player Levels with Dark Elixir
-
Offline mode (allows players to do single player campaign mode without the need of internet)
-
Random events like meteorite lands in villages
-
Added Guard or Unguard option to clan castle troops
-
Increased loot penalty for higher town halls
-
Clan War tournaments and gambling
-
Ability to customize the appearance of troops which does not affect their stats
So
if you have nothing important to do on your free schedule, Clash of
Clans now serves as an alternative against boredom for you. The game
is user-friendly and you can easily learn how to play it. However, just make sure that you won’t compromise other crucial things in your life like your
studies, sleep, time for your family, etc. by playing too much.
